The Nintendo Wii Console

Nintendo Wii has surely taken the world by storm. No wonder why the Wii was sold out in many stores worldwide for long periods of time. Its revolutionary technology was the reason for this massive craze. Although the Wii does not have the graphics of the Playstation 3 it brought something to the market that no other game console had brought before, its revolutionary control system.

Weighing only 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs) and measuring only 44 mm x 157 mm x 215.4 mm (1.7" x 6.2" x 8.5") the Wii is also a smaller and lighter gaming console than that of its competition. The Wii comes with 512MB of memory 2 USB 2.0 ports and an SD memory card which enables you to take game backups, for uploading photos or music or for downloading virtual games. The processor that runs the Wii is developed by IBM and the graphics chip is developed by ATI.

The Wii comes with a wireless controller which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect three dimensional movements. This enabled Nintendo to develop games in 3D enabling the player to play the games by moving the hand while standing. The Wii has a nice collection of over 800 games which include Guitar Hero III, Excite Truck, No More Hereos, Elebits, Madden 08, Metroid Prim 3, Zack and Wiki, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Tiger Woods 08 and Wii Sports.

The fact that the Wii enables you to move away from the chair or sofa and play games by moving your whole arm (or in certain games both arms) and not just your fingers as in other consoles has been praised by many. Although playing Wii does not burn as much calories as while doing jogging, playing tennis, playing soccer or doing other physical activity the amount of calories burnt while playing with the Wii is not to be underestimated. Wii Fit comes with a balance board on which can perform many of the exercises and games.
